Why did the Library adopt a Creative Commons license?
We believe the work that we do is in service not only of the St. Edward's University community, but also the greater good. Our use of the Creative Commons License is in line with the St. Edward's University Vision & Mission Statement and the distinguishing characteristics of the Congregation of the Holy Cross in that we seek to help others provide educational opportunities for all people.
These works include bibliographies, research guides, lesson plans, and technology tutorials. It does not include the layout and design of our website.
What is Creative Commons?
Creative Commons (CC) is a non-profit organization that created a set of simple, easy-to-understand copyright licenses. These licenses carve out a spectrum of options between the "all rights reserved" of traditional copyright and the copyright-free public domain. The "Some Rights Reserved" model helps copyright holders to share their work easily without giving up all their rights, and it allows everyone to find work that is free to use without permission.
